North Pointe Dental Associates hope all fathers experience the happiest father’s day yet! In light of oral health month being in June, we’d like to provide all dads with a few father’s day dentistry tips that will surely be of use for their dental routines.
Ready to read our top 3 picks?! Check them out below!
Tip 1: Go to your child’s dental appointment
Going to the dentist can be an intimidating time for your child. We encourage dads to accompany their child into the dental room upon their visit. Not only do children value their parent’s support, but they also value their input on oral health habits as well.
We also believe that by joining in on your child’s dental visit, you’ll be able to engage with your child’s dentist and gain more information during your child’s dental treatment. To never miss scheduling your child’s dental appointment, we recommend that you always schedule regular check-ups in any day during your child’s birthday month! This way, you’ll always remember.
Tip 2: Help your child establish a healthy oral routine
Forming healthy dental habits must start at a young age. To help your child pick up the best dental habits, you can simply brush and floss side by side. Brushing and flossing with your child reinforces good technique early on that your child will thank you for later.
During this time, it’s also important to pay close attention to how your child brushes. By pinpointing areas of improvement for your child, they’ll slowly get better and better at perfecting their oral routine.
Tip 3: Child-proof your home
Did you know that more than 50% of children have experienced dental injuries to their primary teeth by hurting themselves on home fixtures and/or furnishings? With this in mind, we’d like to suggest child-proofing your home to ensure your kid’s teeth remain intact.
Below, we’ve provided a few different approaches to child-proofing your home.
- Ensure that your big screen television is out of reach.
- Place heavy objects in your home away from your children to prevent objects from falling and tragic accidents.
- Evaluate the furniture you have in your home. The pieces that have sharp edges and/or angles may pose as a danger to a child’s little teeth or baby gums. Replace these sharp surfaces with padding or molding.
