The month of February is dedicated to promoting the importance of good oral health for children. It’s National Children’s Dental Health Month. In that respect, we’d like to raise awareness and advise parents to establish a dental home for their children before their first tooth emerges, or around the age of 8-10 months.

If you’re not quite sure what dental home is, read ahead to find out its importance and the importance of children’s dental care.

Pediatric training

Pediatric dentists go through an extensive 2-3 years long special training to be able to work with young children and adolescents. It’s extremely important to have a knowledgeable dentist who is equipped to work with your child and who will also give you the best possible advice on how to take care of your child’s teeth.

Guidance

As children grow, so do their teeth and their smile will change over time. If you want your child to have healthy teeth and a beautiful smile, your answer is visiting a pediatric dentist who will guide you and your little one by providing invaluable oral health advice. You will need a dental home in order to achieve children’s dental health success. Don’t hesitate and choose a pediatric dentist who will be happy to teach you all the methods to grow a beautiful and healthy smile.

Diagnoses

Do you want to have the necessary knowledge to maintain a healthy smile at home too? Of course, you do! Children can experience oral health problems such as early childhood cavities, tooth decay, gum disease or halitosis and all these conditions require professional treatment. However, a pediatric dentist can prepare parents to avoid these unpleasant issues and keep the wonderful smile their child has.

Pediatric dentists care for children

Children of all ages, from first teeth to adolescents will have the care they need and deserve from their pediatric dentist. When they are older, it will be time to move on to a general dentist. Your children will learn how to brush and floss their teeth properly, the importance of regular brushing and flossing, the importance of a healthy diet and advice on which food to avoid or reduce.

Do you have a dental home?

Choosing the right dental home is crucial for your children. Choose a dental practice when your child grows their first tooth and a dental professional will take care of your child’s smile. Your dental home will provide a safe and relaxing environment for your child, especially if they’re not comfortable being around dentists.

If you haven’t already chosen your dental home, now is the time. February is Children’s Dental Health Month and we need to start thinking about their oral hygiene and health. Contact us if you’d like recommendations on pediatric dentists in the Tampa Bay area!
